As a wild party takes place at a big house on the remote Irish island of Inisrún, a violent storm cuts the inhabitants and partygoers off from the mainland. There are some Irish words and sayings in the story, and her pronunciation of these are really atrocious. Hopefully the description of the book is enough, but in case it isn’t, seriously, massive trigger warnings for partner abuse, gaslighting, controlling and manipulative behaviour, murder, etc. We need your consent to load this rte-player content We use rte-player to manage extra content that can set cookies on your device and collect data about your activity. I wasn't very interested after reading 40 pages but I thought I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and see what happens.

I did spot the twists before they arrived and I felt that the pace lagged towards the end but overall I really enjoyed this and I’m already excited for whatever she comes out with next! While this book is not for everyone due to it's content matter, it wasn't for me for other reasons entirely. I'd recommend this to anyone who like true crime podcasts/documentaries (in particular West Cork) or fictional versions of them ( Sadie comes to mind). The subject of rape has long been ‘unspeakable’ and remains one of the most controversial and emotionally charged issues for society. The only book i didn't like of hers was Only Ever Yours as i found it bland and difficult to follow. It’s a topic extremely exposed to the dangers of being exaggerated, or misunderstood by a contemporary reader; but she succeeds in making this difficult dynamic a believable backdrop for the story.

I am sure this book will work beautifully for other people who are not as anxious about reading as I am. But most of th ways our society enables abuse are far more pernicious, and Henry is a textbook case. London-based psychotherapist Mariana Andros is trying to come to terms with the death of her beloved husband. After the Silence is a dark and intricate story of the lies we can live, and the fatal effects of long-held secrets. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. This was definitely more of a character study than a mystery/thriller, so I'd recommend it if you enjoy books that are very much character-driven rather than intensely plot-driven. Misty Hill was the artists’ retreat centre that the Kinsella family built on the island of Inisrún,’ she said, reaching for the bottle of water that was by her feet. After The Silence does what Louise does best: addictive and scalpel-sharp fiction that addresses important topics that should demand our attention, while feeling both deep discomfort and fire in our belly. Ten years later a documentary crew arrives, there to lift the lid off the Kinsellas' carefully constructed lives, determined to find evidence that will prove Henry's guilt and Keelin's complicity in the murder of beautiful Nessa. On the day of Henry and Keelin Kinsella's wild party at their big house, a violent storm engulfed the island of Inisrun, cutting it off from the mainland.
